Monday:
· Go for a walk
· Write in your diary

All this week we want you to concentrate you efforts on confronting a situation that has in the past caused you distress or anxiety.

For example; It maybe that you suffer distress from the the idea of going to the dentist.

Note: we are not asking you to make an appointment we simply want you to identify a fear and make a step or two towards realising that it's not perhaps as bad as you allow yourself to believe.

Today; If for example it is the dentist that your uncomfortable with, we want you to walk into your nearest dentist, and ask the receptionist if it's OK for you to sit in the waiting room for a while, tell them that you have a phobia about dentists and that you would like to overcome it by familiarising yourself to the dentist environment.

Do this every day for up to 15 or 30 minutes, read a few magazines and try to relax.

Thursday:
· Go for a walk
· Write in your diary

Today we want you to ask the receptionist is you could maybe sit in a dentist chair for a few minuets, (if necessary make an appointment to do only that) This will help ease your anxiety and make the dentist's chair a familiar place. Maybe ask a few questions about the equipment.

Ask if maybe you could do it again, but in the mean time keep visiting the waiting room.

Then maybe, just maybe you should think about making an appointment for a check up. No dental work will be done without your consent, and it will be up to you to make or forget your next appointment.

But if you did attend, this would be such a huge personal achievement, that you would be flying in confidence, and the pride that you have so rightly earned.

Note: you should visit the dentist waiting room as often as you can until the appointment date arrives, to retain your comfortable feeling.
